Anna Leigh Ashford

Annaleigh Amanda Ashford has been an American actress, dancer and performer since the beginning of the 1990s. She started her Broadway career with musicals such as Wicked, Legally Blonde, and Hair. Her role in You Can't Take It With You as Essie Carmahiel earned her an award for the Tony Award in Best Featured Female Actress in a Play. Annaleigh is a Tony Award winning actress as well as director, has spent the bulk of her professional career working with well-known directors and actors on screen and in television. Ashford can be seen next starring alongside Kumail Nanjiani, as Robert Siegel's Hulu exclusive Welcome to Chippendales. It premieres on the 22nd of November. Ashford's current project is Searchlight Pictures horror thriller Dust and he will be starring with Sarah Paulson and Ebonmoss-Bachrach. The film is an Hulu Original, the film will be a part of Disney Digital Television's channels. Ashford is set to return in 2023. He will star alongside Josh Groban at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre for the return of Stephen Sondheim's Sweeney Todd. Thomas Kail, director and producer of Hamilton will lead the production. Ashford has most recently played Paula Jones in the new Ryan Murphy FX series American Crime Story Impeachment based on the crisis in America that picked up Paula Jones Monica Lewinsky and Linda Tripp as principal characters for the first impeachment proceedings in over one century. Ashford was a part of two seasons of the hit CBS comedy B Positive. It was developed by Marco Pennette and Chuck Lorre the series also starred legendary actor Linda Lavin Hector Elizondo and Ben Vereen.No new to Broadway Ashford won the Tony Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for her performance as Essie in You Can't Take It with You. The actress has also appeared in Broadway in Sunday in the Park With George Wicked, Legally Blonde as well as the original part in the role of Lauren in Kinky Boots for which she received a nomination for a Tony Award. Ashford divides her time between Los Angeles & New York. She was born in Denver and grew up there.
